Week 25 "Owners week"
The wait is finally over and a new season at Olderø flyfishing lodge can begin. It had been a long winter with alot of snow And this had resulted in a very high/cold river for our opening week. The river did drop in a consistent way during the week making it more accessible for our guests. Due to the snowmelting water the tempreture off the river was very low and steedy between 4-8 degrees celsius. This offcourse affected our approach to how we tried to convince the salmons to take our flies.
We started the week with more heavy lines and bigger more visible flies in the merky water. It didn't take long for our guests to hook up to some salmon. It would though be with mixed feelings because most of the fish where kelt/størring from last years spawn. All off these fish that we cought were gently unhooked and quickly released. The kelts are not at all our target but its good to see how many healthy fish are on their way out to sea after a tough winter.
By the middle off the week our first time angler Stian did encounter a big fresh fish in one of our pools in zone 2. After a good fight the fish unfortunally got the better of Stian. Even though the battle was lost it was very good to see one of our guests lift their rod into a big fresh fish.
Besides that a broken running line, broken shooting head and a broken trebelhook are just a few of the big fish encounters we could tell about from this week..!
Headlines of the next days went with alot of trying and on the last day of the week it finally resulted in the first salmon of the season.
Rolf and manager of Olderø fly fishing Lodge Henrik Kassow Andersen presenting this years first fresh fish.
Rolf was fishing in zone 2 and managed to hook and land a 91 cm fresh fish on a floating line with a light sinking leader to the big delight off us all.
Conditions are looking better by the day and river is slowly stabilizing to where we prefer it.
We are so happy to have kicked of the 2025 season and looking forward to many great salmon stories from the banks of Lakselv.
