Week 27 River awakens

This week, we were fortunate to welcome back family and friends for the first part of the week. It was a wonderful reminder that fly fishing is never just about the fish. It's about slowing down, sharing time with the people around you, and creating memories that stay with you long after you've left the river.

Those moments together are what make every trip truly special.

As everyone eagerly headed out for our traditional "warm-up session," it didn't take long for one of those special moments to unfold.

Alex was fishing with his son, Freddie, in Zone 1 when, not long into the session, he came face to face with one of the salmons that anglers from around the world travel to Olderø to experience.

After a brutally aggressive take, the battle began—and it was every bit as demanding as expected. Hooking a big, fresh salmon in powerful water is never easy, and this fish was no exception. Alex went toe-to-toe with the powerful fish and, after an unforgettable battle, watched it glide into the net.

The salmon was a stunning female measuring 101 cm and weighing 13.5 kg. A new personal best Atlantic salmon for Alex—and what made the moment even more special was sharing it with his son. 

The following days brought consistently good fishing, with the group landing several beautiful fresh salmon measuring between 87 and 95 cm.

By midweek, a new, smaller group of guests arrived and kept the momentum going. Olegas started his stay by hooking two strong fish, but unfortunately lost both of them. However, the afternoon would give him a chance for redemption.Fishing in the upper part of Zone 2, Olegas got his third opportunity of the day. This time, everything came together, and after a hard-fought battle he successfully landed a fresh Atlantic salmon weighing 6.5 kg. But he wasn't finished yet. On his second run through the pool, another fish rose confidently to his surface fly. After a thrilling fight, Olegas and his guide finally slipped the fish into the net. It was a magnificent Atlantic salmon measuring 102 cm and weighing 12.2 kg—a memorable catch and a fantastic reward for his persistence.

The final part of the week confirmed what we had been hoping for: the fish have now arrived in good numbers throughout the Lakselv River system, and with more salmon still making their way upstream, the prospects continue to improve.

Looking ahead, next week's conditions are promising. Forecasts are calling for some heavy rainfall but we will see how it unfold.
