Week 31, Summer.

Heading into this week, hopes were high after last week’s great fishing. Expectations were high, and everyone was eager to see what the new week would bring. Our guests this week were a mix of long-time veterans, returning friends, and new faces joining us for their first experience at Olderø.

The conditions to start the week were very good, but with some rain in the forecast, we knew the river could change and the flow could increase. 

But it didn’t take long for our guests to get into the groove of last week’s great fishing. The fish were clearly still in the mood, and it didn't take much time before rods were bending, lines were tightening, and plenty of fish were being hooked. The week was off to a fantastic start, with plenty of excitement and anticipation around the river.

During this period, we landed a good number of fish in the seven-to-nine-kilo range, with some beautiful salmon coming to the net and keeping the excitement high throughout the week.

Frei from Iceland had a great experience during this period, fishing down one of our classic necks in Zone 1. It started with a fish boiling behind his fly, but there was no connection. After a small fly change, the fish came again, only to refuse once more. Then, on the third cast, with a tiny little fly, the fish finally committed and took.

The fish turned out to be an 86-centimetre sea-liced male. And what a beauty it was—a fresh, powerful fish that gave Frei a memorable battle and a fantastic start to his week at Olderø.

Edward, who had already landed a couple of nice fish during the good period, now found himself facing one of the fish that every angler comes to Lakselv hoping to encounter. Fishing his Sunray-style fly, just under the surface the fish rose two to three metres to meet the fly, and what followed was an incredible battle. The salmon took off with power, putting Edward and his tackle to the test as the fight unfolded.

But Edward stood his ground and, after a hard-fought battle, watched as his guide finally brought one of the most beautifully proportioned salmon of the week safely to the net. A magnificent 98-centimetre male weighing exactly 11 kilos.

Even though the river had steadily risen throughout the week, it still turned out to be a very successful week on the river. Numerous grilse were caught, along with a good number of bigger salmon. It was a week filled with action, strong fish, and plenty of memorable moments for our guests.

Conditions for next week look promising, as the river appears to have peaked following the rain and is now expected to settle. We’re hoping the fish remain in the same mood and that the good fishing continues into the upcoming week.
