Openning week 2026.
The opening week marked the start of another exciting season at Olderø Fly Fishing Lodge. A smaller gruop of guests arrived in good spirits and were welcomed with favourable conditions for the first days of fishing on the Lakselv. Preparations completed during the off-season ensured that the lodge, vehicles, equipment, and fishing beats were ready for operation from day one.
River Conditions; The opening week started with very favourable river conditions. Water flow remained stable, ranging between 30 and 40 (m³/s) throughout the week. These levels provided excellent fishing conditions, with good accessibility across the beats while maintaining sufficient water for salmon movement. Water clarity was good, allowing anglers to fish effectively with a variety of techniques and fly patterns.
After a relatively quiet start to the week, the fishing finally came to life in an exciting 30-minute window. Two salmon decided to take our flies, providing a welcome boost to the opening week's results.
The first fish was hooked by the lodge owner in Zone 2. After a solid fight, he successfully landed a male salmon measuring 80 cm. The catch marked an important milestone for the opening week and confirmed that fresh fish were moving through the system.
Shortly after, first-time visitor TJ, fishing with his dad, landed a beautiful 89 cm female salmon. It was a memorable catch that capped off an exciting 30-minute spell, confirming that fresh fish had arrived in the river.
The forecast for next week is calling for plenty of rain, which should keep the river at a healthy level, and hopefully encourage more fresh salmon to move into the system. We are looking forward to another exciting week on the river.
