Week 29 first big girls run.
Conditions for the start of this week where looking great with the river steady dropping from 15.5 kubic meters and tempretures in the water arround 14 degrees celsius. It looks like some summer weather is on its way but nothing that should influence the conditions to much.
Our arriveing guests was a good mixture of familiar and new faces. Hearing tales about how last week ended everybody was ready to jump into their waders and fishing. It didn't take long for 82 year old Fritz to continue the trend of hooking into big fresh fish. Fritz was fishing his warm up session in Zone 1 where he would soon find himself in a battle with big one. The fish gave Fritz an awsome fight but had to admit defeat at the end. The big fresh male salmon messured 98 cm and 10.4 kg and was Fritz new personal best. Great way to start the week and a big congrats to that after many years of fishing finally got a 10 kg + to his name.
Fritz with his fantastic fish.
Next days was a little slow for the big fish but a big run of fresh grilse started running the river. This resulted in all of our guests had hook ups of these smaller but strong fish. A total of 13 grilse between 52 and 72 cm where landed on the week with more lost aswell.
In the mix of all the grilse some of our guests had chances on way bigger fish.
Tom hooked a really nice fish that put the line into a tree during the fight and of it went. Our old time friend of the lodge Gerald was the second to finally keep the on all the way to the net. He was fishing in Zone 2 passing thrue a pool where in previous years he had good luck. Again this year he would find a taking fish there. The fish was a beautiful male of 9.4 kg.
Longtime friend and guest of the lodge Gerald with a stunning fish from zone 2.
The week ended with more grilse landed and Blake having two chances on big fish. He was fishing the last session in Homepool where he saw a big fish roll not far from his fly and a few cast later he lifted his rod into a good fish. The fight was fast and the salmon toke some hard runs which quickly tired it out.
Only a short time from giving up the 10 kg+ fish had one last run and came of. Beeing positive Blake kept on going and a half hour later he would hooke up again on a similar size fish but unfortunally got defeated again. Hope to see Blake and the whole group back for a revenge trip.
The warm weather looks to continue a little into next week. But with all the fish that are in the river and the many more to come we are pretty sure that there will be some good fishing headed our way.
